Applications Engineer (Santa Clara)
You will report to our Director of Applications Engineering and be a critical contributor to a fast-moving, fast-growing power semiconductor manufacturer. The position is based in Santa Clara, California.
We will count on you to deeply and technically understand our product offerings, our customers' applications, and our value proposition, and to use this understanding to assist the Director of Applications Engineering in all aspects of driving new product definition and of taking the company and its products to market.
The position will be an exciting one, as you will be relied upon to help the company identify, define, quantify and articulate new applications to the management team and to define new products for those markets as appropriate. You will also be counted upon to identify and help extend the company's competitive advantages through product and intellectual property development.
Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for the aggressive and impeccable completion of tasks in several areas of applications engineering:
- Maintain and communicate industry-best understanding of technical trends driving our (and end-use) markets and competition
- Write application notes, and co-author technical papers
- Identify new product opportunities, and qualify, develop and champion development of our product offering (by application)
- Identify and help to enhance the company's competitive advantage and/or barriers to entry (by product)
- Provide technical support for sales and marketing
- Contribute content to technical collateral materials
- Shared responsibility for Qspeed sales into a specific target market/application(s)
- Take on the role of key technical expert for FAEs and customers
- Write detailed specifications and application notes for power semiconductor products
- Define new products and new applications
- Hands-on lab work:
- Design and debug demonstration and/or evaluation hardware for new products
- Gather data needed for competitive analysis or product development direction
- Solve customer application problems in a timely manner

Reporting To: Director of Applications Engineering
Education:University degree in electrical engineering (BS acceptable, MS preferred)
Required Skills and Experience:
- Excellent written and spoken English

- Ability and willingness to work directly with customers on resolution of complex technical issues
- Advanced knowledge of power electronics and power conversion:

- Ability to work with a global constituent base
- Advanced knowledge of power electronics and power conversion:
- 5 years minimum power semiconductor applications experience in power supplies
- Strong understanding of power electronics and AC-DC power conversion
- 5 years minimum hands-on design and/or applications laboratory experience
- At least 1 year of paid corporate experience conducting analog circuit analysis
- Well-organized and self-motivated
- Can use PSPICE and/or other circuit simulation tools
- Legal right to work in the U.S.
- Ability to travel nationally and/or internationally on an occasional basis
Desired but not Required Skills and Experience:
- Recent semiconductor corporate experience (within last 3 years)
- Knowledge of power semiconductor structures and processes
- Public speaking / presentation skills
