New ENERGY STAR Testing Requirements Raise Industry Concerns

An ENERGY STAR third-party testing requirement that went into effect at the beginning of the year is now being met with some resistance by manufacturers. The issue begs the question: When does the expense of efficiency labeling become cost-prohibitive?

SemiSouth First to Sample 650V 55mOhm SiC JFETs

SemiSouth is delivering industry's first 650 V silicon carbide JFET power transistors. The fast switching speeds, large current handling capability combined with the superior thermal properties of SiC makes these devices ideal candidates for power electronic applications. They employ vertical trench JFET structures, which allow for industry-leading on-resistance per unit area, as much as five to ten times lower than competing technologies.

Verdict Reached in PI Lawsuit Against Fairchild

A verdict has been reached in Power Integration's 2008 patent-infringement lawsuit against Fairchild Semiconductor. After a three-week trial in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, a jury found that Fairchild infringes two Power Integrations patents. The infringement findings cover approximately 75 Fairchild products.
