Q-Series 600V Rectifiers Improve PFC Efficiency
Up to 90% of the efficiency of SiC Schottky Diodes but at a lower cost
Q-Series rectifiers were specifically designed to improve PFC efficiency in AC-DC power supplies. Click Here For Samples and Tech Support.
Test reports from our customers and independent labs show that Q-Series rectifiers will boost power supply efficiency .5% to 1.5% compared to ultra fast rectifiers. Q-Series diodes will achieve 90% of the gains offered by Silicon Carbide (SiC) diodes.
In fact, customers have reported that under certain operating conditions, Q-Series diodes have been shown to offer higher efficiency that even the best SiC diodes. Click here to read more about how Q-Series can beat SiC on both efficiency and cost.
The exact efficiency gains you will see will depend on your operating conditions.

Who Is Using Q-Series in Production Today
Our 8 Amp 600V Q-Series Rectifier was officially released to production in July 2006. It was then followed by the 5 Amp and then the 3 Amp version.
In less than one year after its official release, the Q-Series products are used in mass production and pre-production by more than 15 power supply manufacturers spanning over 30 different power supply designs.
The Q-Series diodes have been adopted by customers faster than any other power semi we have seen. We believe this is due to the trend to make power supplies more efficient while still reducing BOM cost.
A number of these power supply manufacturers have already converted from SiC to Q-Series.
Proven "100% Silicon" Reliability
Q-Series rectifiers are built using well established silicon materials and silicon wafer processing. We use the same basic materials that have been used in power semiconductor manufacturing for over 30 years.
Being 100% silicon, Q-Series diodes have none of the crystal defects that plague SiC.
SiC is a good material, but the benefits you are paying for are not realized until you reach very high voltages (> 1200V) and high temperature (> 200°C).

Will Q-Series Replace All SiC Diodes?
The answer is "no." SiC Schottky diodes are built on a fairly exotic wide band gap material that is very expensive and difficult to manufacture.
SiC gets its benefits from the intrinsic properties of the exotic material whereas the benefits of our Q-Series diode come from design and process technology. Most of the people on our senior staff at Qspeed have been doing this type of work for over 25 years, so we really know how to design and manufacture the highest performance power semiconductors.
Thus we claim that Q-Series will give you most of the efficiency that SiC will, but it will cost you a lot less.
Replacing SiC with Q-Series
We suggest that you design around the Q-Series diode first, and then use SiC as a second source.
In most cases designers have been able to simply replace the SiC with Q-Series.
In the few cases where this did not work, we have found poor airflow and heat sinking to be the problem.
Thus we recommend you optimize around Q-Series and then use SiC as a back up.
